Dubai International Airport serves the largest city within the United Arab Emirates. A famous international airport, it is a unique aviation hub at the heart of the Middle East as well as Dubai’s main airport. It is located in the district of Al Garhoud, about 2.5 miles southeast of Dubai. In a week the airport caters for about 5,600 flights to over 200 world destinations and operated by 100 airlines. Currently, Dubai Airport is ranked the twelfth busiest in the world in terms of passenger traffic, this after handling passengers totaling 40.9 million. It is also the fourth busiest airport across the world by virtue of its international traffic, and the fifth busiest by in the globe in terms of cargo traffic.
At the airport, the largest operating airline is Emirates Airline, having a very vast fleet amounting to more than 140 Boeing and Airbus aircraft whose base is in Dubai. This enables it to offer scheduled services to varied areas such as destinations in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, South America, North America and Europe. The Emirates Airline operates from a part of Terminal 1 and exclusively from the third Terminal. Emirates’ subsidiary, the Emirates SkyCargo, caters for all types of scheduled cargo services from Dubai to other locations across the face of the earth.
As a result of the huge passenger and cargo traffic there is also another low-cost type of airline, the Flydubai, planning to hold about 50 aircraft. It seeks to offer passenger services to and from the heart of Dubai to other areas in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, operating from Terminal 2.
For recreational flying in Dubai, the Dubai Aviation Club operates the services, where private owners and pilots are offered training and other facilities. The Dubai Government has not been left behind and offers long and short-range rescue and search services, medical evacuation, police support as well as other general-purpose aviation flights for Dubai Airport, and all types of VIP flights within the airport.
